Mr. Mike Lombard
Mike is a share holder in TBI Adventures. He served in the South African Police service for 35 years
where he held the rank of Assistant Commissioner in charge of national basic training. He has extensive
experience and knowledge of training and development in the corporate environment. He also served as a
member of the National Standards Body (NSB) of the South African Qualifications Authority.
Mike has a passion for the outdoors and sport. He actively partakes in cycling and is the current
Southern Cape Road and Time Trial Champion. He is a member of the South African Spelaeological
Association and loves exploring wild caves. He is a certified AEL facilitator and HBDI practitioner. He
has a National Diploma in Police Management and a certificate (PRISA) in Public Relations.
He resides at the TBI Adventures Training Centre near Oudtshoorn where he also serves as manager of the
centre.
Mr. Johan Uys
Johan is a share holder in TBI Adventures and lives in Oudtshoorn. He has a passion for the outdoors, from
sailing catamarans, scuba diving and paddling sea-kayaks, to walking hiking trails, climbing mountains
(including Kilimanjaro, the French and Swiss Alps and some active volcanoes), exploring wilderness areas,
mountain biking, venturing underground (wild caving) and paddling down rivers. The local Swartberg mountain
range is Johan's speciality.
Johan is a member of the South African Spelaeological Association, a certified Mountaineering Development
& Training Trust abseil supervisor, a registered THETA adventure guide (Mountaineering), and has a
Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering.
Dr Chris Heunis
Chris is a former lecturer at the University of Pretoria and founder of the Team Building Institute (TBI). He
is a director of the following companies: Team Building Institute Ubuntu PTY (LTD); Team Building Institute
PTY (LTD); Team Building Institute Explore PTY (LTD); Vecto Trade PTY (LTD). He lives in Pretoria does
marketing for TBI and facilitates programmes between his marketing commitments. Executive coaching has always
been his interest and his involvement at Sasol and Oryx GTL (Qatar) confirms his talent as coach and mentor.
He acts as external examiner to the Faculty of Engineering Management and Information Technology at the
University of Pretoria.

Mr Robbie Verkuyl
Robbie is the co-founder and Director of the Team Building Institute. He is one of a few in this industry
qualified as advanced facilitator and as a ropes course constructor. His proud “Island of
Healing™” ropes courses are to be found all over South Africa. He is a director of the following
companies: Team Building Institute Ubuntu PTY (LTD); Team Building Institute PTY (LTD); Vecto Trade PTY (LTD).
He is a keen adventurer and values the role outdoor experiences play in his everyday life.

Miss Liesel Swart
Liesel is a qualified industrial engineer and Director of the Team Building Institute. Coming from an
engineering environment, she has the ability to understand the unique challenges of clients representing
the world of Engineering and Manufacturing. Apart from team building sessions, she also has a keen interest
in facilitating strategy sessions.

Miss Petra Fischer
Petra discovered her passion for people and adventure while working at a summer camp in the United States.
She successfully completed her studies at UP where she served on various student committees. Her experience
with children and students makes her in the ideal candidate to manage TBI's youth programmes.
